Several other Hyperion series welcome new additions this month. A sixty-fourth Romantic Piano Concerto album finds Artur Pizarro recording Piano Concertos by Henrique Oswald and Alfredo Napoleão. The BBC National Orchestra of Wales is conducted by Martyn Brabbins, who also steers the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra through the Bruch Scottish Fantasy & Violin Concerto No 3, this seventeenth volume of Romantic Violin Concertos marking Jack Liebeck's dazzling series debut. A third volume of Debussy Songs is the perfect showcase for soprano Jennifer France, her vocal flights of fancy being complemented by some baritone songs from Jonathan McGovern and attentive accompaniment from Malcolm Martineau.
Music for Remembrance is a wide-ranging and moving tribute to the dead of two World Wars and is centred on a wonderful new recording of the Duruflé Requiem; James O'Donnell conducts Westminster Abbey Choir and the Britten Sinfonia. A new album of Choral music by Arvo Pärt from Polyphony and Stephen Layton is always going to be a treat—this one won't disappoint.
Re-issued this month are Handel's 'Opus 1' Sonatas performed by Elizabeth Wallfisch, Rachel Beckett, Lisa Beznosiuk, Paul Goodwin, Richard Tunnicliffe and Paul Nicholson, the complete Brahms Piano Trios from The Florestan Trio (joined by Stephen Stirling and Richard Hosford to add the Horn and Clarinet Trios),
and the six Bach Motets as recorded by The Sixteen in 1989.
For their own LSO Live label, the London Symphony Orchestra has made a new recording of the Berlioz Symphonie fantastique under Valery Gergiev, and—with Antonio Pappano conducting—the premiere of Peter Maxwell Davies' Symphony No 10.
Newly available from our website this month is the hugely impressive catalogue of Signum Classics (we're adding this extensive treasure trove as fast as we can—bear with us!). New releases bring Alessio Bax playing the Beethoven Hammerklavier & Moonlight Sonatas, Tamsin Waley-Cohen performing Vaughan Williams & Elgar with the Orchestra of the Swan and David Curtis, and impeccable Nielsen & Mozart Clarinet Concertos from Julian Bliss, the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Mario Venzago. Crack chamber choir Tenebrae and Nigel Short have recorded sumptuous new Choral works by Will Todd (some with the English Chamber Orchestra), and from The King's Singers there is an inimitable set of 22 Postcards they seem to have picked up on their travels …
