February 2010 Releases

Hyperion's Record of the Month for February takes as its title the very pinnacle of William Byrd's Sacred MusicInfelix ego is an achievement every bit worthy of the devotion lavished upon it by The Cardinall's Musick and Andrew Carwood and makes a glorious conclusion to the series as a whole. Modern choral masterpieces by Praulinš, Einfelde, Sisask and Miškinis come from Trinity College Choir Cambridge and Stephen Layton on Baltic Exchange, an album of blistering performances and several premieres.

Howard Shelley and his indefatigable Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana present two of the most accomplished Spohr Symphonies, while solo recitals come from Jonathan Plowright, with an enchanting sequence of Hommages à Chopin, and Lawrence Power—the ground-breaking Hindemith Solo Viola Sonatas being the second volume in his welcome series.

The Complete Stravinsky Music for Violin & Piano makes for a fascinating programme—from the Duo concertant and Divertimento, through the enchanting ballet-score arrangements, to occasional morceaux, all are lovingly rendered by the masterful Anthony Marwood and Thomas Adès.

And from the archives we are pleased to make available a Gramophone Award-winning programme The Service of Venus and Mars from Gothic Voices and the inspirational Christopher Page, and pyrotechnical Tartini Violin Concertos from Elizabeth Wallfisch and The Raglan Baroque Players.
