Gerald Finley brings his fine sense of drama and theatre to these songs. He has already shown he is a good storyteller in previous song recital recordings by the likes of Schubert, Ravel, Barber and Ives. He easily alters tonal color to suggest authority, intimacy or despair … As usual, Finley's diction is excellent, through German, Italian, French and English texts, nicely captured in the balanced, close but resonant recorded sound. There are full texts with English translations and excellent jacket notes by the noted U.S. lieder scholar, Susan Youens. More please.
