This well-programmed CD from the Choir of Westminster Abbey under their long-standing director is a superb achievement. The disc unites some of the finest 20th century church music from three eminent composers who were not church music specialists. As you might expect from this stable, the choral singing is of the highest standard, with Hyperion's engineers capturing and then making a virtue of the Abbey's reverberant acoustics. A special word must be reserved for sub-organist Daniel Cook, who accompanies throughout with impeccable musicianship and sensitivity.
