Mezzo-soprano Alice Coote is regarded as one of the great artists of our day. Equally famed on the operatic stage as in concert and recital, she has been named the ‘superlative British mezzo’ (San Francisco Chronicle). Her performances have been described as ‘breath-taking in sheer conviction and subtlety of perception’ (The Times) and her voice as ‘beautiful, to be sure, but, more importantly, it thrills you to the marrow’ (The Daily Telegraph).

The recital platform is central to her musical life. She has performed at Wigmore Hall, the BBC Proms, Royal Festival Hall, Concertgebouw, Vienna Konzerthaus, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, with orchestras including the London Symphony, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Finnish Radio Symphony, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Philharmonia, Hallé and Washington’s National Symphony.

On the opera stage, Alice has performed at the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, Opéra national de Paris, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Dutch National Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Bayerische Staatsoper, Oper Frankfurt, Salzburg Festival, Staatsoper Hamburg, Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Seattle Opera, LA Opera, San Francisco Opera and Canadian Opera Company.

Her many recordings include Schumann and Mahler songs; The Power of Love: An English Songbook; Messiah and The Choice of Hercules (Handel); Symphony No 2, song cycles and Das Lied von der Erde (Mahler); The Dream of Gerontius and The Apostles (Elgar); Ariadne auf Naxos (Strauss); L’Orfeo (Monteverdi); Alto Rhapsody (Brahms); and Winterreise (Schubert).

On DVD Alice has featured as Hansel in Hansel and Gretel (Humperdinck), Le Prince Charmant in Cendrillon (Massenet), Nerone in L’incoronazione di Poppea (Monteverdi), Ruggiero in Alcina (Handel) and Maffio Orsini in Lucrezia Borgia (Donizetti). In 2018 she was awarded an OBE for services to music.
