Heinrich Schiff began playing the cello at the age of ten and made his professional debut in 1971 after studies with Tobias Kühne and André Navarra. Heinrich Schiff has played with and conducted all the leading orchestras in Europe, the USA and Japan. He has recorded all the major works in the cello repertoire and has commissioned and performed the works of many contemporary composers including Henze, Penderecki, Berio and Casken.
Heinrich Schiff a commencé le violoncelle à dix ans et a effectué ses débuts professionnels en 1971 après des études avec Tobias Kühne et André Navarra. Heinrich Schiff a travaillé, comme soliste et comme chef, avec tous les plus grands orchestres d’Europe, des USA et du Japon. Il a enregistré toutes les plus grandes œuvres du répertoire de violoncelle et a commandé et créé les œuvres de nombreux compositeurs contemporains dont Henze, Penderecki, Berio et Casken.

Er hat sämtliche bedeutenden Werke des Cello-Repertoires auf Tonträger eingespielt und Auftragswerke vieler Komponisten der Gegenwart, darunter Henze, Penderecki, Berio und Casken, zur Aufführung gebracht.
