Duncan Rock studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and subsequently at the National Opera Studio. He is the winner of the 2012 Chilcott Award—the inaugural award from the Susan Chilcott Scholarship to support a ‘major young artist with the potential to make an international impact’. A Jerwood Young Artist at the Glyndebourne Festival, he was the recipient of 2010 John Christie Award, given by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
On the opera stage, Duncan has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera; Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Glyndebourne; Boston Lyric Opera; Deutsche Oper, Berlin; Houston Grand Opera; Théâtre du Châtelet; Teatro Real, Madrid; Gran Teatro del Liceu; Opera North; Welsh National Opera; Opera Queensland; and English National Opera. His role highlights include Papageno in The Magic Flute; Schaunard and Marcello in La bohème; Donald and Novice’s Friend in Billy Budd; Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia; Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Billy Bigelow in Carousel; Lord Mountjoy in Gloriana; Belcore in L’elisir d’amore; and the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
