Thomas Künne was born in 1965 in Thüringen, Germany. Having studied conducting in Weimar he moved to Vienna, where he studied Lied and Oratorio with Edith Mathis. Since moving to Vienna in 1993 Thomas has sung many operatic roles, as well as working at Vienna’s Burgtheater as a singer and actor. Regular collaborations with German director Einar Schleef culminated in 1999 with him playing the title role in The Golem of Bayreuth (Ulla Berkéwicz/Lesch Schmidt) at Vienna’s Akademietheater. Thomas sings professionally as both a tenor and countertenor with the ensembles Orpheon Consort, Clemencic Consort and Cinquecento, whilst continuing a solo career specialising in modern works and opera. He teaches at Vienna’s Singakademie and at the Musikschule, Hollabrunn.
Thomas Künne stammt aus Thüringen, Deutschland, und lebt seit 1993 in Wien. Nach seinem Dirigierstudium in Weimar studierte er an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien Lied und Oratorium bei Edith Mathis. Als Countertenor brachte Thomas Künne zahlreiche Werke zeitgenössischer österreichischer Komponisten (u.a. W. Sauseng und R. Clemencic) zur Aufführung. Alte Musik pflegt er mit dem Clemencic Consort und dem Ensemble Cinquecento. Thomas Künne ist auch als Oratoriensänger regelmäßig in Österreich und Deutschland zu hören. Engagements führten ihn nach Spanien, Italien, Ungarn, Polen, Frankreich und in die Schweiz.
