Helena’s operatic repertoire ranges from Mozart to Wagner, in roles such as Isabella (Das Liebesverbot) and Elsa (Lohengrin). However, the roles for which she has been in demand over the past few years have been in the bel canto repertoire, such as the title roles in Norma (Chelsea Opera and Melbourne Opera) and Cristina, regina di Svezia (Wexford Festival Opera), and Queen Elizabeth in Roberto Devereux (Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Metropolitan Opera and Melbourne Opera). She has also explored many works by Verdi and Strauss, having recently sung for several seasons in the fierce role of Odabella in Atilla (Staatstheater Nürnberg), and the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos (Longborough Festival Opera).
Concert repertoire includes Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Requiem, Exsultate, iubilate and Great Mass in C minor, Saint-Saëns’s Oratorio de Noël, Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, Richard Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder, Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Beethoven’s ninth symphony, Fauré’s Requiem, Britten’s War Requiem, Chausson’s Poème de l’amour et de la mer, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Haydn’s Creation, and most recently Verdi’s Requiem with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.
Helena is a regular favourite at the Metropolitan Opera, where she has covered the roles of Elvira in Ernani, Elettra in Idomeneo, Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito and the title roles in Norma and Semiramide; in 2019 she made her debut as Alice Ford in Falstaff.
