Kate Royal studied at Guildhall and the National Opera Studio and her many awards include the 2004 Kathleen Ferrier Award, the 2004 John Christie Award and the 2007 Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award. Operatic roles include Pamina (Glyndebourne), Countess Almaviva and Governess (Glyndebourne on Tour), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for Glyndebourne and Teatro Real, Madrid, Woglinde (concert performances of Das Rheingold) at the BBC Proms and in Baden-Baden, Countess Almaviva at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Miranda (Adès’s The Tempest) for The Royal Opera and Handel’s L’Allegro for the Paris Opera. Opera engagements include the title role in L’incoronazione di Poppea (ENO), Micaëla (Glyndebourne) and Pamina (The Royal Opera). Her concert engagements include appearances with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Rattle, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and William Christie, and performances with Sir Charles Mackerras and Helmuth Rilling; she has also appeared in recital throughout Europe and has undertaken a major recital tour of the USA.

Elle incarne notamment la Maréchale (Le Chevalier à la rose), Pamina (La Flûte enchantée), Micaela (Carmen), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), la Comtesse (Les Noces de Figaro), la Gouvernante (Le Tour d’écrou), Helena (Le Songe d’une nuit d’été) et Miranda (La Tempête d’Adès). Parmi ses enregistrements, publiés chez EMI Classics et Hyperion, figurent un récital en solo avec Malcolm Martineau et le Liederkreis de Schumann avec Graham Johnson.

Auf der Opernbühne trat sie in der Glyndebourne Festival Opera, dem Royal Opera House/ Covent Garden, dem Teatro Real/ Madrid, der English National Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Metropolitan Opera/ New York und bei den Festspielen in Baden-Baden, Luzern und Aix-en-Provence sowie bei den BBC-Proms auf. Zu ihren Rollen gehören die Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Micaela (Carmen), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Gräfin (Le nozze di Figaro [Figaros Hochzeit]), Gouvernante (The Turn of the Screw [Die Drehung der Schraube, Die sündigen Engel oder Die Besessenen]), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream [Ein Sommernachtstraum]) und Miranda (Ades’ The Tempest [Der Sturm]).
