At the age of 24 he was nominated by Zubin Mehta to the position of Leader of the Cello Section of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the youngest ever to hold this position. Simca was the founder and cellist of the famous Yuval Trio (with pianist Jonathan Zak and violinist Uri Pianka) which performed worldwide for 40 years and recorded for labels including CBS, Deutsche Grammophon and others.
He played as soloist with many leading orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, Pittsburg Symphony and Israel Philharmonic, with conductors including Mehta, Maazel, Blomstedt, Dorati, Zender and Levi, to name just a few.
He was for several years the Music Director of Poland’s Filharmonia Pomorska and the Israel-Poland festival in Lodz. He conducted many orchestras in Poland, Israel and the USA where he took the Orchestra of St Luke’s on a tour to South America and the NY Chamber Orchestra to a tour in Mexico with Gil Shaham as soloist.
For seven years Simca Heled was the Artistic Director of Concerts Plus, a chamber music series in New York which performed at Lincoln Center and was broadcast live by WQXR to thousands of listeners. Among the participants in that series were artists like Ida Haendel, Henryk Szeryng, Yefim Bronfman, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Shlomo Mintz and others.
As a cellist Heled recorded many albums for labels such as Vox, Qualiton, Centaur, Romeo and others, winning many awards as well as being included in 'The Ten Best Recordings of the Year' in the USA.
Simca Heled is a member of American Society of Inventors where some of his inventions are registered.
