Fuad Ibrahimov (conductor)

Fuad Ibrahimov is principal conductor of the Neue Philharmonie München and the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra. He won second prize at the 2018 Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition in Paris, leading to invitations to conduct the Orchestre philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and performances with Kremerata Baltica and Gidon Kremer. Since then he has performed with the Sinfonia Varsovia at the Folle Journée de Nantes Festival and in Tokyo; conducted a gala concert with Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov in Minsk; closed the 2021 Rostropovich Festival with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia ‘Evgeny Svetlanov’ and Gautier Capuçon; and conducted the Bordeaux National Orchestra and Evgeny Kissin in 2023.

Ibrahimov has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, North Czech Philharmonic Teplice, MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, among others. He conducted Das Kritische Orchester, featuring musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic and other leading orchestras. In 2012, he undertook his first opera production with the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln. In 2011, he was invited by Fabio Luisi to the Pacific Music Festival in Japan.

For Delos he recorded an album with the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia ‘Evgeny Svetlanov’ dedicated to Belgian composer Jean-Alphonse De Zeegant. Ibrahimov began conducting studies in 2006 with Professor Michael Luig at the Cologne Academy of Music, and became music director of the student symphony orchestra Sinfonietta in 2008. He received a special prize from DAAD in 2010 for highly talented foreign students.

In 1998, Ibrahimov joined the Baku Music Academy’s viola class under Professor B Mehdiyev and studied at the Cologne Academy of Music. Ibrahimov started his music education at the age of twelve at the Baku Music Academy and later joined the youth string orchestra Tutti.
