Ian Le Grice (organ)

Ian le Grice has had a long association with the Temple Church which began in 1957 when he joined the church choir as a treble, succeeding Robin Lough as head chorister and becoming one of the principal soloists. He went on to assist Sir George Thalben-Ball unofficially, playing for recordings, broadcasts, concerts and services with the Temple Church choir until 1983 when Dr John Birch succeeded Sir George and Ian le Grice was officially appointed Assistant Organist, a position he still holds.

Ian le Grice’s career embraces all aspects of organ playing: concerto performances, solo recitals, recitals with singers and instrumentalists, continuo work, orchestral playing and the accompaniment of church services. In addition to his work at the Temple Church he is Organist of Reigate St Mary’s Choir School, Musical Associate of the English Arts Chorale and accompanist to the Croydon Philharmonic Choir and the St Cecilia Chorus. He has held teaching posts at the Royal College of Music, Trinity College of Music and the University of Reading.
