Valery Gergiev, one of the world’s finest conductors, is Artistic and General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre. As well as managing the Mariinsky Theatre, he is Music Director of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and works with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala. He has founded and organised musical festivals of world renown such as the Gergiev Festival Mikkeli (Finland), the Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival (The Netherlands), Stars of the White Nights Festival (Saint Petersburg) and the Moscow Easter Festival.

At the Mariinsky Theatre Gergiev has overseen the emergence of a plethora of world-class singers. Under his direction the theatre’s opera and ballet repertoires have become much richer and more diverse, now including a broad range of works from 18th to 20th century classics as well as music by contemporary composers. In 2006 the Concert Hall opened on the site of workshops that had burnt down, and 2 May 2013 saw the opening of the new Mariinsky Theatre (Mariinsky-II) alongside the historical building, thanks to which the Mariinsky Theatre was transformed into a theatre and concert complex unparalleled in Russia.

Gergiev’s numerous awards and prizes include prestigious government decorations from Russia, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, the Netherlands and Poland. He is Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the St Petersburg State University, Co-Chairman of the Organisational Committee of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, Chairman of the All-Russian Choral Society and Honorary President of the Edinburgh International Festival. In 2012 Gergiev was awarded the titles of Honorary Doctor of the Moscow State University and Honorary Professor of the St Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire.

Lauréat de nombreux prix et récompenses, Guergiev se voit décerner prestigieuses distinctions nationales en Russie, en Allemagne, en Italie, en France, au Japon, aux Pays-Bas et en Pologne. Il est doyen de la faculté des Arts de l’Université d’État de Saint-Pétersbourg, co-président du comité d’organisation du XVe Concours international Tchaïkovski, président de la Société chorale russe et président d’honneur du Festival international d’Édimbourg. Depuis 2012, Guerguiev est docteur honoris causa de l’Université d’État de Moscou et professeur honoraire du Conservatoire Rimski-Korsakov de Saint-Pétersbourg.

Mai 2013 öffnete das neue Mariinski-Theater (Mariinski II) neben dem historischen Bauwerk seine Pforten. Dadurch ist das Mariinski-Theater nun ein Theater- und Konzertkomplex, der in Russland seinesgleichen sucht.

Zu den zahlreichen Preisen, die der Maestro erhielt, gehören zahlreiche nationale Auszeichnungen, etwa von Russland, Deutschland, Italien, Frankreich, Japan, den Niederlanden und Polen. Waleri Gergijew ist Dekan der geisteswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg, stellvertretender Vorsitzender des Organisationskomitees für den XV. Internationalen Tschaikowski-Wettbewerb, Vorsitzender des Allrussischen Chorvereins und Ehrenpräsident des Edinburgh International Festival. 2012 wurde Gergijew zum Ehrendoktor der staatlichen Universität Moskau ernannt sowie zum Ehrenprofessor des Rimski-Korsakow-Konservatoriums in St. Petersburg.

В 2006 году на месте сгоревших мастерских был построен концертный зал, а 2 мая 2013 года состоялось открытие новой сцены Мариинского театра (Мариинка-2) рядом с историческим зданием. Так Мариинский театр был преображен в театрально-концертный комплекс, равных которому нет в России.

Среди многочисленных призов и званий Гергиева престижные правительственные награды России, Германии, Италии, Франции, Японии, Нидерландов и Польши. Он декан факультета искусств Санкт-Петербургского государственного университета, сопредседатель Оргкомитета XV Международного конкурса имени П.И. Чайковского, председатель Всероссийского хорового общества и почетный президент Эдинбургского международного фестиваля. В 2012 году Гергиеву было присвоено звание Почётного доктора МГУ и звание Почетного профессора Санкт-Петербургской консерватории имени Римского-Корсакова.
